Opening Reception March 2 at 5:30pm
Exhibit on display from March 2 – April 28, 2017
Stefan's mixed media paintings featuring oxidized metals and oils layered into abstract designs will be featured in the Black Creek Arts Center Gallery starting at the Reception on March 2 at 5:30pm and continuing until April 28.
My approach to art is abstract and yet very physical, organic and concrete in nature. In avoiding obvious brushstrokes, I want to achieve a sense that my works are as worlds or materials of their own. At the same time, I use abstraction as a tool to create space for contemplation. I want to invite the viewer to go beyond just seeing the physical properties of the materials, and perhaps also hear the stories they want to tell.
I always try to let my surroundings speak to me about invisible realities, and in this way the world becomes a mirror for my soul. My hope is that my artwork will stir these kind of reactions. I want my art to cause people to stop and look again, to slow down and listen and hear the things one can only hear when the soul gets quiet.
In combining refined and robust materials, I express life as a place where both beauty and decay are acutely real and present. I ask questions about the polarities of life, searching for value and purpose within the paradoxes.
