Embodied Expression: Yoga & Art in Motion with Jamie Martell

Step into a sacred dialogue between body and canvas. Join us for a unique evening of yoga, art, and community connection.
This special 90-minute experience begins with a 60-minute all-levels yoga class (taught by Jamie Martell) inspired by the evocative, emotion-rich artwork of Aldric Morton (AldricMorton.com). Surrounded by his powerful depictions of the human form and spirit, we’ll flow through a sequence designed to awaken your own embodied stories and deepen your connection to self and sensation.
After class, enjoy private access to both art galleries for a quiet viewing of the current exhibits—an opportunity to linger, reflect, and witness the work through a new somatic lens.
We’ll conclude with a light happy hour gathering, offering refreshments and the chance to connect with fellow participants and art lovers.

ARTIST STATEMENT:
Being raised in the church, I am constantly troubled when people use a single Bible verse to justify or discredit someone. Without context of the chapter, paragraph, and background of a verse, it difficult to properly apply it to your life. Likewise, with our peers, we often see a fragment of information as representing the whole person. Technology controls a large percentage of how the world receives information. It gives us access to more information than before. However, it has also damaged our ability to communicate with each other face to face. Words, phrases, emotions, intentions, and motives are misinterpreted, because we read things through the eyes of social media without gaining facts from the source. The overly abundant, force-fed articles that we carry in our pockets seem to promote a desensitized society, to the point of reverse compassion. Moreover, this mindset has trickled down into everyday lives and affected interpersonal interaction. I use drawing to connect myself with art, people, and the world around me. Each individual image is an attempt to capture the flow of dialogue between people, objects, and ideas.
