Reimagining Recycled Materials Through Art
Student-created public sculptures transforming recycled materials into
community landmarks across Darlington County.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Re:Made Darlington is a county-wide public art initiative that transforms recycled materials into large-scale student-created sculptures displayed throughout Darlington County.
Led by Black Creek Arts Council in partnership with SC Arts Commission, local schools, artists, and community organizations, the project connects creativity, sustainability, and public engagement through hands-on arts experiences.
As part of this six-school pilot program, students work directly with professional sculptor Mike Fowle during week-long artist residencies to design and build original sculptures using reclaimed and recycled materials. Each installation is created to reflect the identity, creativity, and voice of its school community while encouraging environmental awareness and civic pride.
The completed sculptures will be installed in public spaces across the county, creating an evolving community art trail that celebrates student creativity and demonstrates how art can transform everyday materials into meaningful public experiences.
Reclaimed Materials
Students and communities gather recycled and repurposed materials that will become the foundation of each sculpture.
