Stop Scrolling. Start Creating.
A Beginner-Friendly Creative Weekend
September 25-26, 2026
Black Creek Arts Council • Hartsville, SC
Put Down Your Phone
Pick up Your Creativity.
Rediscover the joy of making something with your own hands in a welcoming, beginner-friendly weekend where curiosity matters more than experience.
No experience.
No pressure.
Just creativity.
Remember when you used to make things just because it was fun?
We spend hours scrolling.
Watching.
Liking.
Saving ideas we'll probably never try.
Somewhere along the way, many of us stopped making things.
This weekend is your invitation to slow down, laugh, experiment, and remember how good it feels to create.
Whether you've never picked up a paintbrush or haven't made art since high school, you'll fit right in.
TWO DAYS. ONE CREATIVE RESET.
Choose Your Creative Adventure
Beginner-friendly workshops. Pick the experiences that sound like you—or try something completely new.
-
Pick up a brush, play with color, and discover that painting doesn't have to be intimidating.
-
Play with clay, explore texture and form, and create something with your own two hands, no kiln required.
-
Layer, print, experiment, and embrace the unexpected as you create one-of-a-kind prints.
About Timi:
Timi Bronson is a mixed-media artist with a love of quilting, watercolor, and creative printmaking. She enjoys experimenting with color, texture, and everyday materials - and especially enjoys helping beginners discover that art can be playful, approachable, and most importantly - FUN!
-
Get your hands messy and discover just how much fun you can have with paper, paste, and a little imagination.
-
That phone already in your hand? Learn how to use it differently and create photographs you'll actually be excited about.
-
Slow down and discover the surprisingly relaxing art of creating beautiful patterns one line at a time.
CREATE. CONNECT. RESET.
Making something is only part of the experience.
Throughout Saturday, we'll pause for short Creative Reset conversations about curiosity, perfectionism, making time for yourself, and giving ourselves permission to create.
Creative Reset Voices

You Are More Creative Than You Think
with Taylor Pederson, Licensed Professional CounselorCreativity isn’t just for artists, and you don’t have to consider yourself “creative” to have it.
In this Creative Reset, Taylor will explore how creativity already shows up in our everyday lives and what can keep us from recognizing or trusting it. Through reflection and conversation, participants will be encouraged to let go of perfection, comparison, and the idea that creativity has to look a certain way.
This session is an invitation to see creativity differently, quiet the inner critic, and give yourself a little more permission to experiment, play, and create.

Creativity as Self-Care
with Jamie Martell, MA, CYT 500
Creativity can be more than making something; it can also be a way to slow down, reconnect, and take care of yourself.
In this Creative Reset, Jamie will explore how simple creative practices can support rest, reflection, and emotional well-being. Participants will be encouraged to think about creativity as a tool for creating space in their lives, reducing stress, and reconnecting with themselves in meaningful, manageable ways.

Stop Scrolling. Start Creating.
with Casey Gainey
This final Creative Reset is a chance to reflect on the weekend and think about what comes next. Through guided reflection and open conversation, Casey will help participants identify the moments, ideas, and creative practices they want to carry forward, as well as the obstacles that can make it hard to maintain creativity in everyday life.Together, the group will explore simple, manageable ways to keep creativity present without turning it into another item on the to-do list. Participants will have time to ask questions, share thoughts, and leave with practical ideas for continuing their creative practice long after the weekend ends.
About Casey:
Casey Gainey is an artist, educator, and creative guide who loves helping others reconnect with their creativity. She believes creativity is for everyone and enjoys creating welcoming spaces where people can explore, make, and grow. How Your Creative Day Unfolds
-
Absolutely! In fact, this weekend was designed with beginners in mind. You don't need artistic talent or experience, just curiosity and a willingness to try something new. Our instructors are there to encourage, not critique, and you'll be surrounded by people who are learning right alongside you.
-
Not at all! We expect many participants to come on their own. The weekend is intentionally designed to help people connect through shared creative experiences, so you'll have plenty of opportunities to meet new people in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
-
Wear comfortable clothes that you can move and create in. While we do our best to keep projects tidy, we recommend wearing something you wouldn't mind getting a little paint or clay on. Comfortable shoes are encouraged, you'll be moving between creative experiences throughout the day.
-
Just yourself! Supplies are included with your registration, along with lunch, coffee, and light refreshments. If there's anything specific you'll need for a particular creative experience, we'll let you know before the event.
-
Yes! You'll select from several beginner-friendly creative experiences offered throughout the day. We'll share the full lineup before the event so you can decide what interests you most. Registration for individual experiences may be requested in advance to help us prepare materials.
-
You're exactly who we created this weekend for.
One of the biggest goals of Stop Scrolling. Start Creating. is helping people rediscover creativity they may have forgotten they had. This isn't about creating perfect art, it's about enjoying the process, trying something new, and having fun
-
Yes! You'll leave with several handmade projects, new creative skills, and hopefully a hobby you'll want to continue long after the weekend is over. You'll also receive resources and ideas to help keep your creativity going at home.
-
Yes! Saturday registration includes a boxed lunch, coffee, light breakfast snacks, and refreshments throughout the day, so you can relax and focus on creating.
-
That's the fun part! Every option is designed for beginners, so there's no wrong choice. Pick what sparks your curiosity, you might even discover a creative hobby you never expected to love.
-
Don't worry! This weekend isn't about perfection, it's about exploration. Some projects you'll complete, while others may simply introduce you to a new hobby. The goal is to leave inspired, not stressed.
